Admiral Francis Beaufort 1774-1857 Born in Navan, Co Meath, where there is a memorial plaque. He devised the wind scale that bears his name. The scale measures wind in twelve categories from dead calm to hurricane force. He is buried in London. The area is now a park behind the church and the grave is with others behind a fenced enclosure but is clearly visible from the path as it is beside the railing. |
