Seathrún Céitinn (Geoffrey Keating) c. 1570/80-c. 1644/50 Born in Burges, County Tipperary. After his ordination he studied in Bordeaux and Rheims. He returned to Tubrid around 1610 where, except for his research and a period when he had to go into hiding, he stayed until his death. He wrote a famous History of Ireland (Foras Feasa ar Éirinn), travelling all over the country examining the manuscripts in the hands of the Gaelic nobility. He was also a talented poet. He is buried in County Tipperary.
