Eric Cross 1903-1980 Born in Newry, County Down. He was educated in England and became an engineer. He was the inventor of a synthetic marble. He is best known for his book, The Tailor and Ansty, which arose from conversations between a seanchaí from Gouganebarra, Tim Buckley and his wife Anastasia and their friends and neighbours. The book was banned. Other works include Silence is Golden and Other Stories. He is buried just outside Westport. The Tailor and Ansty are buried in Gouganebarra.
