Born in Virginia 1826, died in New York 1919. Distinguished son of more distinguished sires, by his burning / and unquenchable zeal for the cause of Irish freedom / he perpetuated in America the patriotic traditions established / in Ireland by his illustrious grandfather Thomas Addis Emmet / and his martyred grand-uncle the immortal Robert Emmet. Eminent Among the Surgeons of his Generation, Founder of Plastic Surgery, Teacher, Historian, Publicist and Biographer. Peerless Patriot and Devout Catholic. His Name is Benediction Among Many Peoples. By his Dying Request his Remains are Laid to Rest Beneath this Monument in the Land of his Forefathers. May he Rest in Peace.
