Oliver Goldsmith 1728-1774

Born in Pallas, County Longford. He was a poet, playwright, essayist and novelist. He graduated from Trinity College Dublin but failed to complete other studies. After several failed careers he became a writer for journals and magazines. His works include She Stoops to Conquer, The Vicar of Wakefield and The Deserted Village. There is a statue of him, by John Foley, in front of Trinity College Dublin. He was buried in London.
