Lafcadio Hearn 1850-1904

Born in Lefkas, one of the Ionian islands, to a Greek mother and Irish father. He was given the name of Patrick but dropped it after falling out with his fatherís family. He lived in Dublin before emigrating to America and then to Japan where he took the name of Yakumo Koizumi. He is very well-known in Japan. His works include Glimpses of Unfamiliar Japan, Japan: An Attempt at Interpretation, Exotics and Retrospective, In Ghostly Japan, Shadowings, A Japanese Miscellany, Out of the East, Kokoro, A Japanese Miscellany and Kwaidan.
