Charles Kickham 1828-1882 Born in Mullinahone, County Tipperary. He was a poet, novelist and patriot. A leading Fenian, he worked on the IRB paper the Irish People. In 1865, he was arrested and spent four years in Pentonville prison. After his release he concentrated on writing. His novel Knocknagow is still read today and other works include Sally Cavanagh and the song Slievenamon. His collected poems were published in 1870. He is buried in County Tipperary.
