Edward
Cardinal McCabe 1816-1885 Born in Dublin. He was described as a great churchman but an indifferent Irishman. He clashed with Father Lavelle and the Land League. He succeeded Cardinal Cullen and was himself made a cardinal in 1882. Cardinal McCabe had asked to be buried along with the poor. At that time this area was at the farthest end of the cemetery and was used by the poor. But with the opening of the new gate, the site became quite prominent. His monument was sculpted by Thomas Farrell. He is buried in Dublin.
