Hugh MacCurtain (Aodh Buidhe Mac Cruitín) c. 1680-1755 Born in Kilmacreehy, Corcomroe, County Clare. He was a schoolmaster, a poet, a writer and an antiquarian. He published The Elements of the Irish Language, Grammatically Explained in English at Louvain in 1728. He also published the first English –Irish dictionary in 1732. He is buried in an unmarked grave at Kilmacreehy Cemetery, County Clare.
