Richard Robert Madden 1798-1886 Born in Dublin. He trained in medicine and spent many years in Jamaica, Cuba and Africa where his job was to supervise the anti-slavery legislation. He returned to Dublin in 1850. He wrote poetry, a biography of Countess Blessington and many other books and essays on his work and travels. He is chiefly remembered though, for his work The United Irishmen - Their Lives and Times, in seven volumes. He is buried in Dublin.
