Brian Merriman died 1805 Born sometime between 1740-1749 in Ennistymon, County Clare. He was a farmer and schoolteacher. He is remembered for his poem The Midnight Court (Cúirt an Mheán-Oíche). The poem has been translated into English by various people, including Frank O’Connor. For many years the poem and all its translations were banned. He is buried in Feakle, County Clare.
