T(homas) P(ower) O’Connor 1848-1929 Born in Athlone, County Westmeath. He was a journalist and a Member of Parliament, representing Galway from 1880-1895 and Liverpool from 1895 until his death. He founded the Star in 1887, T.P.’s Weekly in 1902 and the Sun which failed due to financial difficulties. He became the first film censor for the UK in 1917 and was for many years the Father of the House of Commons. His books include Life of Beaconsfield, Gladstone – Parnell, and The Great Irish Struggle, The Parnell Movement and Memoirs of an Old Parliamentarian. He is buried in London.
