Tomás (Thomas O’Crohan) Ó Criomhthain 1856-1937
Born on the Blasket Islands. He was a fisherman who lived all his life on the island. Encouraged by Brian Ó Ceallaigh he wrote about his life and experiences in Allagar na hInise. This was followed by An tOileánach (The Islandman) which quickly became a classic of Irish literature. He is buried in Dun Chaoin.
