Seumas O’Kelly c. 1875-1918 Born in Loughrea, County Galway. He was a journalist who worked for numerous papers and edited the Leinster Leader and Nationality. He was a writer of novels, short stories and plays which include The Lady of Deer Park, Wet Clay, Meadowsweet, Hillsiders, Rhymes and Ballads, The Shuiler’s Child, The Bribe and The Parnellite. It is his short stories that he is best remembered for, especially The Weaver’s Grave and The Leprechaun of Kilmeen. He died of a heart attack in the offices of the Nationality during a raid by British troops. He is buried in Dublin.
