Margaret Mary 1878-1968

Parents of Patrick and William. James was a sculptor who was born in England. His work can be found in Glasnevin Cemetery around the church and on various monuments. Their daughter Margaret taught in her brother’s school, St Enda’s and kept it going for nearly twenty years after the death of her brothers. She was elected to her mother’s seat in County Dublin in 1933, and was made a senator in 1938, a position she held until her death. They are buried in the family plot in Dublin.

The Celtic cross over the grave of Ellen Burke and William Burke, has sculptures on three of the sides. These were the work of James Pearse, Patrick Pearse’s father. Another example is to be found on the grave of John D'Alton.
