Joseph Rahilly 1875-1916
Born in
Ballylongford County Kerry. He was a founder member of the Volunteers and helped
fund the bringing in of arms aboard the Asgard. He was against the Rising but
came up to Dublin to fight in the G.P.O. and died leading a group of men in a
futile attempt to break out. Yeats wrote a poem about him called The O’Rahilly.
He is buried in Dublin.
