George William (AE) Russell 1867-1935

Born in Lurgan, County Armagh. He worked with the Irish Agricultural Organisation Society and edited its journal from 1905-1923. He became one of the leading figures in the Co-operative movement. He edited the Irish Statesman from

1923-1930. His house was a meeting place for the artists and intellectuals of the time. He wrote on mysticism, economics and politics as well as writing poems and plays. His works include  The Candle of Vision, The National Being, Some Thoughts on an Irish Polity, Vale and Other Poems, The Avatars, The Interpreters, Song and Its Fountain and Deirdre. He is buried in Dublin.
