Cornelius Ryan
1920-1974

Born
in Dublin. He worked as a war correspondent with the Daily Telegraph
during the Second World War, covering the D-Day landing and the subsequent
events. After the war he went to America and worked for various
publications. From 1950
onwards he devoted his life to research and
writing. His three books sold many millions of copies and The Longest Day
was made into a very successful film. His other two books were The Last
Battle and A Bridge Too Far. He is buried in Ridgebury Cemetery,
Ridgefield, Connecticut beneath a stone that simply states Cornelius Ryan
