Joanna Mary Sheehy Skeffington (Hanna) 1877-1946 In 1908, she co founded the Irish Women’s Franchise League. She was married to Francis and both opposed the violence of the Easter Rising. After Francis’ murder Hanna refused the compensation. The murder brought her more into the struggle for Irish independence. She joined Sinn Féin, was against the Treaty, joined Fianna Fáil and argued publicly with Sean O’Casey about The Plough and the Stars. She continued to fight for justice and for an improvement in Ireland’s condition right up to her death.
