Bobby Sands 1954-1981

Born in Belfast. He was a member of the IRA and was imprisoned on a number of occasions. He was leader of the hunger strike for political status and while on strike was elected to Westminster. He died after 66 days. He wrote of his prison experiences in One Day in My Life. An anthology of his writings can be found in the book Skylark, Sing Your Lonely Song which includes his best known songs McIlhatton and The Voyage (I Wish I Were Back Home in Derry). He is buried in Belfast.
