Born in Bailieborough, County Cavan. He wrote for quite a few papers and co-founded the National Democrat. His works include a biography of Michael Davitt, a one-act play The Prodigal Daughter and a novel called In Dark and Evil Days. He was a socialist and pacifist. He took no part in the 1916 Rising and was out preventing looting when he was arrested. He was executed without trial the following day. The killing eventually caused uproar at Westminster. The officer responsible, Major Bowen-Colthurst, was found guilty of murder but insane and was sentenced to 18 months in a military hospital. Sheehy-Skeffington is buried in Dublin.
