George Sigerson
1836-1925

Born in Holy Hill,
Strabane, County Tyrone. He was a physician, translator and writer whose
works include Poets and Poetry of Munster, The Mountains of Pomeroy,
History of the Land Tenures and Land Classes of Ireland, Modern Ireland,
Songs and Poems and Bards of the Gael and Gall, as well as other
translations from the Irish. He also translated Charcot’s Lectures on
Diseases of the Nervous System. He helped found the Feis Cheoil. He
influenced the work of many poets of his own and the next generation. He
was the father of Dora Sigerson Shorter.
He is buried in Dublin.
