Paul Smith
1920-1997

Born
in Dublin. He left school at an early age and worked in various unskilled
jobs. He travelled widely in America, Australia and Europe and began
writing in his twenties. His first novel, Esther’s Altar (revised later
as Come Trailing Blood) was published in America and was well received
there. It was banned in Ireland. Other works include The Countrywoman and
Summer Sang in Me. He is buried in Dublin.
