Edith Somerville
1858-1949
Martin (Violet
Florence Martin) Ross 1862-1915

Somerville was born
in Corfu and Ross at Ross House, County Galway. They were cousins who came
together to write under the names of Somerville and Ross. Their works
include The Real Charlotte, Some Experiences of an Irish R.M., Further
Experiences of an Irish R.M. and In Mr Knox’s Country. After the death
of Violet of a brain tumour in 1915, Edith was convinced she was still in
communication with Violet and wrote 15 more books that were attributed to
Somerville and Ross. These include Irish Memories and The Big House at
Inver.
They
are buried side by side in County Cork.
