Sir Richard Steele 1672-1729

Born in Dublin. He was a dramatist and essayist whose works include The Christian Hero, The Funeral, The Conscious Lovers and The Tender Husband. He is best known for promoting the ‘periodical’. He published The Tatler in 1709 and along with Addison, he founded The Spectator in 1711 and The Guardian in 1713. He is buried in Wales.
