Patrick Sarsfield 1650-1693

Born at Lucan, County Dublin. Twice defended Limerick and after the Treaty was signed he was allowed to leave for France. He took over 10,000 men with and they formed the Irish Brigade which fought at the Battle of Landen. Died at Huy in Belgium.

He is buried in the grounds of St. Martinís Church in Huy, Belgium. A plaque on the wall marks the location. The church is situated on the Rue de Sant Martin. Only one wall and two side walls still exist and they are hemmed in by modern buildings. As you come out of the railway station take the right hand road and the first road on the left leads to the church.
