
Patrick Sarsfield 1650-1693
Born at Lucan, County Dublin. Twice defended
Limerick and after the Treaty was signed he was allowed to leave for France. He
took over 10,000 men with and they formed the Irish Brigade which fought at the
Battle of Landen. Died at Huy in Belgium.
He is buried in the grounds of St. Martin’s
Church in Huy, Belgium. A plaque on the wall marks the location. The church is
situated on the Rue de Sant Martin. Only one wall and two side walls still exist
and they are hemmed in by modern buildings. As you come out of the railway
station take the right hand road and the first road on the left leads to the
church.
