William Stokes 1804-1878 He was born in Dublin and
studied medicine there and in Edinburgh. He was one of Ireland’s greatest
doctors and established with Robert Graves an internationally famous teaching
centre at the Meath Hospital. He anticipated the discoveries of many other
medical practicioners. His works include Diseases of the Chest; Diseases of the
Heart and Aorta.
