Edward Walsh
1805-1850

Born
in Derry. He was not a man afraid to express his opinion or show his
political disposition and as a result ended up in prison and losing
several jobs. He worked mostly as a teacher. He wrote a number of poems
but is perhaps remembered for his translations. His works include Reliques
of Irish Jacobite Poetry and Irish Popular Songs. He is buried in Cork.
