James White
1913-2003
Born in Dublin. He
was the art critic for the Irish Press 1950-59 and the Irish Times
1959-62. He was curator of the Dublin Municipal Gallery 1960-64 and
Director of the National Gallery from 1964-1980. He was also chairman of
the Arts Council 1978-1983. His publications include Irish Stained Glass
(with Michael Wynne), The National Gallery of Ireland, Jack B. Yeats, John
Butler Yeats and the Irish Renaissance, Masterpieces of The National
Gallery of Ireland, Pauline Bewick: Painting a Life and Gerard Dillon, A
Biography. His body was donated for medical science.
