John Butler Yeats 1839-1922

Born at Tullylish, County Down. He was the father of W.B. and of Jack and of Lily and Lolly. He was called to the Bar but became a painter. He also wrote essays for Harpers Weekly. His works include Essays Irish and American, Passages from the Letters of John Butler Yeats and Early Memories: Some Chapters of Autobiography. He is buried in Jeanne Fosterís family plot in the Rural Cemetery, Chestertown, New York, U.S.A. Photo by Cathy Fagan
