John Butler Yeats
1839-1922

Born
at Tullylish, County Down. He was the father of W.B. and of Jack and of
Lily and Lolly. He was called to the Bar but became a painter. He also
wrote essays for Harpers Weekly. His works include Essays Irish and
American, Passages from the Letters of John Butler Yeats and Early
Memories: Some Chapters of Autobiography. He is buried in Jeanne
Foster’s family plot in the Rural Cemetery, Chestertown, New York,

wife Susan is buried in London and his two daughters Lily and Lolly are
buried in Dublin.
