Paul Cardinal Cullen 1803-1878 Born in Prospect, County Kildare. He was ordained in 1829, was made Archbishop of Armagh in 1850 and cardinal in 1866. He was strenuously opposed to the Young Irelanders and the Fenians. He was instrumental in having Newman appointed to the new Catholic University. He is reputed to have drafted the dogma on Papal Infallibility. He was buried at Clonliffe. |
