Jack Lynch 1917-1999
Born in Cork. First elected in 1948 and held
Ministries in Education, Industry and Commerce, and Finance He was Taoiseach
from 1966-1973 and again 1977-9. It was during his time in office that the
Northern conflict began and ministers in his cabinet were charged with gun
running. Des O’Malley gave the funeral oration.
He is buried in Cork.
