Jasper Robert Joly 1819-1892

Born Clonsast, County Offaly. A book collector who left over 23,000 volumes which later formed the basis for the National Library. He is buried in Clonbulloge, County Offaly.  a railed enclosure on the left hand side of the path beside the front door to the church. The grave is at the back on the left hand side. The inscription reads:

died 1(?) September 1885

he donated his valuable library

books manuscripts and prints to

the nation. These are preserved in the

national library of the land
