Mervyn Archdall 1723-1791

 

Born in Dublin. He was educated at Trinity College Dublin. After ordination, he took up a position as chaplain to the Bishop of Ossory. Other various postings followed before he became rector at Slane where he died. He is best known for his work Monasticum Hibernicum. He also worked on Lodge’s Peerage of Ireland and increased it to seven volumes.He is buried in Slane, County Meath.
