Sir Charles Villiers

Composer and conductor born in Dublin He
wrote seven symphonies, ten operas, chamber music, church music and choral
works. He was Professor of Music at Cambridge from 1887-1924, and the Professor
of Composition and Orchestral Playing at the Royal College of Music from 1883
until his death. His pupils included Vaughan Williams and Gustav Holst. His
ashes are buried in Westminster Abbey beside Purcells.
